Chef Liz Shares Her Three-Generation Apple Cake Recipe

Loyola University Maryland’s Chef Liz has an apple cake recipe that has been in her family for three generations, passed down to her from her grandmother who also worked in the culinary industry.

Chef Liz fondly remembers spending every holiday at her grandmother’s house, where everyone was welcome, and one year her grandmother had long pop-up tables running from the back door to the front door through the living room, just to seat all the guests for Thanksgiving.

The apple cake was originally hand-mixed because her grandmother didn’t have a mixer at home, but Chef Liz has adapted it to avoid carpal tunnel. Her grandmother’s apple cake was one of her most famous desserts within their family and Chef Liz now loves sharing it with her daughter—and Parkhurst.
