At Parkhurst, we take safety and sanitation very seriously because our guests’ health is at the heart of everything we do, but we also like to make safety fun! From even the highest levels of leadership, the entire team comes together to share and reinforce our brand message on safety in the form of engaging training and program materials. In fact, our Safety team helped Eat’n Park Hospitality Group win the Pittsburgh HR Association’s 2019 Innovative People Practices Award for dedication to creative training and communications methods around team member safety and wellness.

Our presentations at managers’ conferences are unlike any in our industry. This example shows a Broadway-style sketch performance on safety from Dan Wilson (far left), our Chief Financial Officer, and his team from finance and accounting. Engaging our executives in reinforcing the safety message in a fun way is a terrific method of demonstrating to our teams how important safety is to the organization. 
These custom food safety posters are placed in our kitchen environments and feature illustrations of our very own Mike Galterio (pictured) and Erik Schlaich in comic book style. They grab your attention and are memorable compared to standard issue safety posters. 
Our food safety training involves the use of these “germ” plushes (for example E. coli) where our safety team explains the different germs and how to keep our kitchens safe from them. 
Manager of Food Safety and Compliance Erik Schlaich and Assistant Director of Guest and Team Member Safety Michael Galterio recently started a Safety On Site podcast and video series, highlighting Parkhurst policies for safety standards in an engaging way. 
Vice President of Higher Education, Larry Orr, stars as “Woody” in our Safety 4 U campaign rolled out in 2019, where we used safety to play off pop culture icons within Star Wars, DC, and Marvel. Also include are VP of Corporate Operations Ken MacIntyre as Buzz Lightyear, Marketing Director Cindy Simak as Little Bo Peep, and Regional Marketing Manager Sarah Heisey as Jessie. 
Always looking to keep training delivery methods fresh and interesting, the Safety team developed this viewfinder program where each site received several units and the training concepts were presented in the image wheel! 
Resident makeup artist and human resources professional Tiffany Bolner helped out with some amazing faux injuries for our first aid and CPR class.
